Touring Pelindaba Lavender Farm
After our visit to Ruben Tarte State Park we found inspiration to visit the Pelindaba Lavender Farm on Hawthorne Road. We arrived about 5:30 p.m. in the evening on June 29th… the weather was a bit overcast so the photos are not too spectacular. Also the color of the lavender is not quite as purple as it can be a little bit later in the summer. We will make a point to stop back by there again on a sunnier day to snap off some awesome photos.
The lavender grown here on this farm is not just for looks…. Every summer the lavender is harvested and used to produce a variety of products. These handcrafted lavender products are available for purchase in the visitors center as well as in the retail store in the town of Friday Harbor.
The lavender farm is also a popular spot for weddings and events. Every July the farm hosts an annual lavender festival.
Unfortunately we arrived a few minutes too late and were not able to enter into the visitors center.
The normal summer visiting hours are from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m..
Restrooms are available on site at the lavender farm.
We had no idea there were so many different varieties of lavender. They have this experimental garden area outside of the visitors center where multiple varieties of lavender are grown.
If you don’t have your own wheels you can always take a taxi out to the lavender farm or give San Juan Transit a call…. They make multiple visits to the farm daily. The lavender farm is also a popular stop for companies offering San Juan Island bicycle tours.
To navigate to the lavender farm just search for 45 Hawthorne lane. San Juan Island. The farm is located about 6 .6 miles from town. And takes about 17 minutes to reach in your car from Friday Harbor.
There are multiple picnic tables and benches scattered around the farm… Take a seat, relax, and take in the sights and sounds of San Juan Island. Other nearby attractions include: Limekiln Point State Park, Deadmans Cove, Snug Harbor Marina and Resort, and British Camp. There are two vacation rentals available that are very close to the Pelindaba Lavender farm…. Haro Straight Haiku and Lake Margo Vacation Rental.
